Insulin and cortisol are two hormones that are necessary for life. Unfortunately, today the majority of the population are overusing these hormones and they have become deadly or as I like to call them "Serial Killers".
Serial Killer #1 - Cortisol
Adrenal glands are two little organs on the top of your kidneys that secret over 150 hormones, and are the body's first responders during times of stress. They make it possible to react to danger whether physical, emotional or imaginary. Because of this role, adrenals are not supposed to be used all the time. However, the demands of our current lifestyle have made stress and ongoing part of daily life. The result is a non-stop stream of hormones, including cortisol, flooding the body and eventually leading to fatigue and burnout.
Your adrenal glands are essential for several critical functions including; carbohydrate metabolism, cardiovascular system, central nervous system, immune system and hormonal production. So if your adrenals are fatigued from overuse you can bet there are going to be negative repercussions on these vital bodily functions.
Serial Killer #2
Insulin is a hormone secreted by your pancreas. Every time you eat a carbohydrate your brain sends a signal to the pancreas to release insulin. Insulin then goes to work to break down the carbohydrates into a simple sugar that can be used as energy. The problem today is that when we consume too many carbohydrates, especially simple carbohydratess, our pancreas has to work triple overtime. This overproduction of insulin can;
• Interfere with the body's ability to break down fat
• Accelerate aging and increases the risk of Alzheimer's and dementia
• Increase the risk of diabetes and obesity
• Increase the risk of cancer
• Increase the risk of stroke and heart attack
And that just naming a few. Sound deadly enough?
Obviously I couldn't write a book without a happy ending! There is a way that we can manage our insulin and cortisol levels and not only prevent disease and death, but feel energized and lose weight. I developed a diet specifically designed to lower the levels of these two hormones and the results of this diet have been astounding. In the spring of 2011 a pilot study was conducted by the Martin Clinic in which 30 participants followed the Serial Killer Diet. Half of these participants were suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia and all had high levels of cortisol and insulin. Here are just some of the results and testimonials from actual participants.
"Its been two weeks since I started the Serial Killer Diet and I am beginning to feel great. I am happier and my energy is returning. I even sleep better."
"The day I volunteered for the Serial Killer Diet was the best day of my life. I have lost seven inches in just four weeks and more importantly - feel great - I've got my life back."
"Over the years I have tried so many diets and just became more frustrated as the scale might show some weight loss but I still had the "pot belly". After one week on the Serial Killer Diet I lost two inches on my waist, then four inches after two weeks. Thank you."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Does the weight loss food program really work?
Absolutely, provided you follow the carefully defined guidelines. Remember, this is a scientifically sound, medically developed protocol that is designed to reset your body function and eating habits. That makes it not only your last diet, it becomes a life changing set of habits you can live with, naturally, while still enjoying food.
How does the diet work?
The diet is designed to put your body in a state of Ketosis. After approximately 3 days on our diet program your glycogen reserves are depleted (sugar and carbohydrates) and your body begins to burn your stored fat for energy. You will start losing weight rapidly as soon as fat becomes your first source of energy.
I’m afraid following the weight loss diet will be difficult
The first few days on the diet, before ketosis sets in, can be a challenge. But hang in there, once ketosis sets in the diet becomes very easy to stick to because the ketones produced act as natural appetite suppressants. Clients report increased energy levels, a greater feeling of well being and more restful sleep.
The speed of the weight loss is a plus as well, it’s very motivating to stick to a diet when you can see and feel a difference quickly.
Is the weight loss diet harmful or unsafe?
Our diet program is a medically safe balance of the ideal vitamins, minerals & proteins. The diet is not an aggressive weight-loss method, it involves no medication. It’s not a “high protein” diet, because you eat only the proteins your body actually needs and no more.
The diet is not suitable for:
• People with severe liver or kidney disease
• People who have insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus
• People who have recently had a cardiovascular incident
• People with active cancer
• Children who haven’t finished growing
• Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
When will I start to see results?
Results vary, depending on your gender, metabolism and starting weight. Most clients will see a 3 – 5 pound weight loss at their first weigh in.
Why is there a greater chance of long term success with this diet rather than others?
It is well known that over production of insulin by the pancreas is a major cause of weight gain and fat storage. During your time on our weight loss program your pancreas will be given a “reboot” after a much needed rest. A properly functioning pancreas is the key to avoiding filling up your fat reserves once you have completed the program and return to proper eating.
What are the foods like?
The foods are made with high biological value proteins and emply 5 different proteins: whey isolates, soy isolates, whole milk protein, albumin and hydrolyzed collagen. This gives our clients many options and is designed so people with sensitivities to dairy, soy or vegatarians may participate. The assortment includes foods that are crunch, chewy, hearty, smooth, sweet, spicy and salty. The foods are tasty and easy to prepare and with over 50 selections you won’t get bored!
Do I have to buy more weight loss foods to maintain my weight after the program ends?
You don’t need to purchase the foods once you are done with the program but most clients like to keep some bars, drinks or soups on hand for quick or “emergency” meal replacements to avoid unhealthy choices.
How Much Does it Cost
Start up price of the program is $249.00
This pricing includes:
• Initial administration fee
• 1 weeks of food and the diet plan

WHAT ARE BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONES?
Bio-identical hormones are the latest buzz words in the natural health industry to achieve international recognition and approval, although they have been around for the last 2 decades. They are the alternative to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Made from botanical plants like soy and yams these bio-identical hormones are pharmaceutically processed – since the human body cannot convert soy or yams directly into natural hormones. This process produces natural bio-identical progesterone and bio-identical estrogens into a transdermal cream. When this transdermal cream is rubbed on the skin your body identifies this cream as being biologically identical to the natural hormones of your body. Your body responds to these hormones as if they were naturally produced by your body rather than reacting to an unknown substance like what happens with synthetic hormones.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY AND BIO-IDENTICAL THERAPY?
HRT ARE THE SYNTHETIC HORMONES that were mentioned earlier. Simply put these synthetic hormones flood receptor sites that are not meant to be affected with these hormones thus shutting down their function. They are not able to perform normal healthy functions required elsewhere by the body. This leads to chemical alterations that can result in unwanted symptoms and unnecessary side effects. Hormone Replacement Therapy works on the assumption that one size fits all. Where one woman might have a deficiency in a certain hormone does not mean you have the same level in this hormone. Too much of any hormone is not good if the dose is inappropriate. Each woman is unique and has different levels of hormones and the outcome is a variety of out of the ordinary symptoms that can leave your male physician scratching his head.
HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERARY CLINICAL TRIAL
The abrupt cessation of a branch of the Women's Health Initiative Randomized Controlled Trial (WHI), a study funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH), caused a media frenzy and raised concerns regarding Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) by both the professional and lay community. For a long time, it was thought that HRT reduced the risk of heart disease, based on large observational studies that found lower rates of heart disease in HRT users.
HOWEVER, research has found that women who have had a recent heart attack or a stroke are more likely to have a second heart attack or stroke if they start taking HRT. For this reason, starting HRT is not recommended for women with cardiovascular disease. In addition, as the WHI study showed, even healthy women who begin HRT may have a slightly increased risk of heart attack or stroke in the first year or two of therapy. This study of over 16,000 post-menopausal women was ended early on May 31, 2002 after 5 years due to an increase in the risk of breast cancer of 26% in the group.
You cannot fool the human body and get away with it for very long without risky consequences.
BIO-IDENTICAL NATURAL HORMONES are anti-inflammatory and anti-aging by their nature of action. They fit into the receptor sites like a lock and key and do not tamper with other receptor sites where they should not be. In as little as twelve hours, fifty percent of the hormone has been dissipated naturally by the body.
Bio-Identical hormones are 100% identical in chemical structure to those found in the human body.
HOW ARE MY HORMONAL LEVELS TESTED?
A small saliva sample is collected in the morning and can be used to measure estradiol (estrogen), progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and cortisol (the stress hormone).
The saliva hormone sample is then mailed to the lab. There will be a review of your levels at the Martin Clinic. This review ensures that you have a clear idea of what your hormone levels mean and how they result in your current symptoms. Lab level results are combined with a review of your symptoms when making a recommendation for Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).
Follow-up is important. As you age your body changes and your hormone requirements change. A saliva sample can be done every 3-6 months. When changes need to be made to your therapy we can recommend the appropriate adjustments. Patients can feel free to call anytime.
We can customize the bio-identical hormones for you, individualized by the results of your testing, needs and symptoms. Testing your saliva has become a well established and extremely accurate way to measure hormonal levels in the body.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR HOMONES ARE BALANCED? – WEIGHT LOSS !!
Cortisol is a hormone in a group of steroids commonly referred to as glucocorticoids. Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal gland as a part of your daily hormonal cycle. Cortisol is also a key hormone involved in the body’s response to stress, both physical and emotional. Cortisol increases blood sugar levels, increases blood pressure, and suppresses the immune system, which is part of the body’s fight-or-flight response that is essential for survival.
HOWEVER, cortisol has a two-fold effect on fat. When the stress first occurs, fat is broken down to supply the body with a rapid source of energy. When we experience something stressful, our brain puts the body on alert and sends it into "fight or flight" mode. As the body gears up for battle, the pupils dilate, thinking improves, and the lungs take in more oxygen.
BUT SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENS AS WELL:
Our appetite is suppressed, and the digestive system shuts off temporarily. The release of the hormones adrenaline and cortisol, which help mobilize carbohydrate and fat for quick energy are released. When the immediate stress is over, the adrenaline dissipates, but the cortisol lingers to help bring the body back into balance. And one of the ways it gets things back to normal is to increase our appetites so we can replace the carbohydrate and fat we should have burned while fleeing or fighting.
This is where the potential second effect of cortisol comes into play. Experts now believe that the problem for many of us is being in a constant state of stress.
EXPOSURE TO CORTISOL OVER THE LONG TERM CAN LEAD TO WEIGHT GAIN, as your appetite and insulin levels are continuously increased. If stress and cortisol levels stay high, so will insulin levels. Continual stress leads to a constant state of excess cortisol production, which stimulates glucose production. This excess glucose then typically is converted into fat, ending up as stored fat.
WHAT IS DHEA?
Dehydroepiandrosterone, more commonly known as "DHEA" is the building block of hormones such as estrogen and testosterone. DHEA levels typically peak by the time people are in their 20s and decline with age, which is why there has been considerable interest in DHEA and its role in aging.
Essentially, DHEA can be called the adrenal stress, immunity and longevity hormone. There is evidence that exists to support DHEA as a treatment for adrenal insufficiency, depression and lupus.
After six months, women taking DHEA lost 10% of their abdominal fat and men lost 7% when fat loss around the abdomen was assessed.
DHEA can help
